Berlin (say it BUR-lin) is a small farm town in the low hills between the Nashua and Assabet river valleys. It was first settled in the 1600s, became a district in 1784 and a town in 1812, and it still runs on open town meeting. For most of its history Berlin was farm country, known at different times for asparagus, hops and poultry, and orchard land and farm fields still line the roads off Route 62. The 1870 Town Hall faces the Meeting House Common, and the homes range from old farmhouses and village houses near the center to newer homes built on larger lots.
Castle “The Window People” replaces windows and doors in every part of Berlin. We measure each opening, recommend what fits your home and budget, and handle the install with our dedicated install crew. Every job is backed by the Castle Lifetime Guarantee.
Why Berlin Homeowners Replace Their Windows
In Berlin’s older farmhouses and village homes, the windows are often original or very old: sashes painted shut, glass that rattles, and storm windows that no longer seal. Newer homes have a different problem. Their first set of builder windows wears out, with glass that fogs between the panes, balances that won’t hold a sash open, and locks that don’t pull the window tight.
On an open lot in the hills, winter wind finds every gap. New vinyl windows with insulated glass and tight seals help keep the heat in, cut down on drafts and condensation, and open and lock smoothly. ENERGY STAR certified options are available, depending on the package you choose.
Window Styles for Berlin Homes
We install vinyl windows only, with ENERGY STAR certified options available depending on the package you choose. Popular choices in Berlin include:
- Double-hung windows, the natural fit for farmhouses, colonials and capes.
- Picture windows, to frame a view of a field or an orchard.
- Casement windows, which crank open and seal tight against the wind.
- Bay and bow windows, to open up a living room or dining room.
- Awning and hopper windows, for basements, bathrooms and small openings.
Every window comes in the color and grid pattern that suits your house, inside and out. Double or triple pane glass is available, and obscure (privacy) glass is an option for bathrooms.
Doors for Berlin Homes
We also replace doors: new entry doors, patio sliding doors out to the deck or yard, and storm doors that protect your main door. Each door is measured to its opening and installed with fresh weatherstripping and a tight threshold, so it closes cleanly and keeps the weather out.
How We Install
It starts with a free in-home estimate. We measure every opening, since older homes rarely have two windows exactly alike, and walk you through your options with no pressure. Most of our work is insert replacement, where the new window fits inside the existing frame and your interior and exterior trim stays in place. If an old frame is rotted or damaged, we’ll recommend full-frame installation for that opening. Our dedicated install crew protects your home, hauls away the old windows, and cleans up before we leave. Most homes are finished in one day.

Berlin Window Replacement FAQ
My farmhouse windows are all different sizes. Is that a problem?
No. We measure every opening on its own, so each new window is sized to fit, even when no two openings in the house match.
Is lead paint a concern in an older Berlin home?
Older homes can have lead paint on the old windows and trim. Our installer is EPA Lead-Safe certified (RRP), and we practice lead-safe installations.
Will I lose my original trim?
Usually not. Most of our work is insert replacement, where the new window fits inside the existing frame, so your interior and exterior trim stays in place.
Do you handle the permit and the old windows?
Yes. We pull the permit for your window and door replacement, and our dedicated install crew hauls the old windows away when the job is done.
