Ashland is younger than most of its neighbors. It was put together from parts of Framingham, Hopkinton and Holliston and incorporated in 1846, and it grew up around the railroad and the mills along the Sudbury River. Later it was home to the electric clock factory that still gives the high school teams their name, the Clockers. The town became mostly residential over the last half century, so the houses here run the full range: older homes along Route 135 and near downtown, post-war capes and ranches, and newer colonials built as farms and open space gave way to housing.
Castle “The Window People” replaces windows and doors in every part of Ashland. We measure each opening, recommend what fits your home and budget, and handle the install with our dedicated install crew. Every job is backed by the Castle Lifetime Guarantee.
Why Ashland Homeowners Replace Their Windows
The older homes along Route 135, the street the Patriots’ Day marathon runners follow through town, often still have original windows or very old replacements. Sashes stick or are painted shut, the old storm windows rattle, and cold air finds its way in around the frames. On the post-war and newer houses, the first set of builder windows is usually what we’re replacing: seals that have failed and fogged between the panes, locks that no longer pull the sashes tight, and balances that won’t hold a window open.
Ashland winters bring nor’easters and long cold stretches, so drafty windows get noticed fast. New vinyl windows with insulated glass and tight seals help keep the heat in, cut down on drafts and condensation, and give you sashes that open, close and lock the way they should. ENERGY STAR certified options are available, depending on the package you choose.
Window Styles for Ashland Homes
We install vinyl windows only, with ENERGY STAR certified options available depending on the package you choose. Popular choices in Ashland include:
- Double-hung windows, the most common replacement for colonials, capes and older homes near downtown.
- Casement windows, which crank open and seal tight, a good fit over a kitchen sink or in a hard-to-reach spot.
- Picture and bay or bow windows, for a living room or family room that looks out on a tree-filled yard.
- Sliding windows, an easy-to-use option for ranches and wide openings.
- Awning and hopper windows, for basements, bathrooms and small openings.
Every window comes in the color and grid pattern that suits your house, inside and out. Obscure (privacy) glass is available for bathrooms.
Doors for Ashland Homes
We also replace doors: new entry doors, patio sliding doors out to the deck or yard, and storm doors that protect your main door. Each door is measured to its opening and installed with fresh weatherstripping and a tight threshold, so it closes cleanly and keeps the weather out.
How We Install
It starts with a free in-home estimate. We measure every opening and walk you through your options with no pressure. We pull the permit, and most of our work is insert replacement, where the new window fits inside the existing frame and your interior and exterior trim stays in place. If an old frame is rotted or damaged, we’ll recommend full-frame installation for that opening. Our dedicated install crew protects your floors and furniture, hauls the old windows away, and cleans up before we leave. Most homes are finished in one day.

Ashland Window Replacement FAQ
Do you handle the building permit?
Yes. We pull the permit for your window and door replacement, so you don’t have to deal with the paperwork.
My house was built before 1978. Is that a problem?
No. Older homes can have lead paint on the old windows and trim. Our installer is EPA Lead-Safe certified (RRP), and we practice lead-safe installations.
Will new windows change the look of my older home?
They don’t have to. Most of our work is insert replacement, so your existing trim stays in place, and you can choose the color and grid pattern that fits the style of your house.
How long does it take to get my new windows?
Plan on about 4 to 6 weeks from order to install, depending on what you choose. Once you sign, your price is locked in. Most installs are then finished in one day.
